The Parish was formed in December 1953 with pastor J.J. Buckley, beginning with the congregation meeting in the gym of the new six room school. In 1954, a building, formerly St. John's Anglican Mission Church, was purchased and became St. Joseph's first official Church with Mass on Dec. 25, 1954. In 1961, the new and present Church began construction in January. Fr. W.J. McGee was associate pastor, celebrating Mass in November, 1961 and the Church officially offered Mass on Dec. 7 and 8 of that same year. The priests moved into the rectory Feb. 1962. The old Church was used as a hall until its sale. The congregation lost Fr. Buckley in a car accident Oct. 15, 1964. Monsignor J.A. Carley was appointed Pastor with Fr. C.H. Gazeley assisting. Fr. Gazeley left in 1983 and Fr. Renee LaBelle became the assistant. Monsignor Carley retired in 1987 and Fr. Bernard O'Neill took over as Pastor with the assistance of Monsignor Carley and in later years with Fr. Laurier Lamarche. Msgr. Carley died 2000 and Fr. Lamarche passed away in 2008. Fr. O'Neill retired in July, 2008 after 21 years as Pastor and Fr. Timothy Shea of Kingston Mills succeeded him. Fr. Shea just enjoyed celebrating his 35th year of ordination and Fr. Bernard O'Neill celebrated his 50th in 2009. Fr. Bernard O’Neill passed away Jan. 13, 2010. |
